Brand-new Rosembauer Panther fire-fighting vehicle at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport waiting for running-in during mid-winter 2002/2003.
Helsinki Airport has received the first one of Panther fire brigade vehicles out of eight ordered by the Civil Aviation Administration (Finland) to be located at major airfields of Finland. The vehicles manufactured by Rosenbauer International AG, Austria, feature the latest fire-fighting technology and widely employed all over the world.
These heavy-weight champions are 3.30 m wide and over 11 m long. Weighing 31 tons, their engine power is rated at 441 kW offering a maximum speed of 120 km/h and acceleration of 32 s from zero to 80 km/h. Water tank capacity is 12,000 liters plus 1440 liters of foamed extinction water. All the vehicles order by CAA (Finland) are equipped with factory-installed MICA CR-33 multistation charger racks carrying MICA IL-80Ex lamps. Moreover, looped with each charger rack are three MICA MLC chargers with ML-602 lamps. In addition to their normal white bulb, the handy MICA ML lamps provide high-brightness arrays of six red six green LEDs for signaling.
The state-of-the-art MICA emergency service lamps by the world-wide recognized Finnish manufacturer are a perfect complement in the equipment of the fire-fighting vehicles. The installation of the chargers is implemented so that they load the vehicle's electric power system only during driving. By virtue of its internal control logic, the MICA CR-33 VAC/VDC charger can optimally select its input power to be primarily delivered by the external power supply of vehicle (that is, the 230 VAC mains when the vehicle is in the garage). As a result, vehicle batteries will not be exhausted even during a longer standby period.
